Autumn Glory

PAWS supporters walked with their dogs behind the PAWS float in the 2009 Autumn Glory parade!  (Click on photos to enlarge.)  This year (Saturday, August 9th) PAWS will be walking with the Golden Key Property Management float, and as usual we hope to have a large group of people and dogs!

Look below at some of the great events we held in 2009.  We’ll have more fun activities for PAWS friends and supporters in 2010, like our spring Passion for Pets karaoke/guest bartender nights at area restaurants and our summer-time Yappy Hours!  Check back often as we update our schedule.

Festival of Trees

PAWS sponsored a tree in the Dove Center’s 2009 Festival of Trees.  Bob and Evelyn Hugueley donated the 7-foot tree and most of the ornaments and hand-made decorations, and PAWS supporters contributed some additional ornaments.  Bob designed the tree, which had a “Dogs and Cats” theme.  The PAWS tree was awarded a third-place ribbon and was auctioned for $800, the highest price paid for any of the more than 30 trees in the festival!  All the money raised goes to the Dove Center.  In the photo below, Bob stands next to his tree.  (Click on photos to enlarge.)

Pet Photo Night!

PAWS and HART were at Studio 24E (www.studio24E.com) on Alder St. in Oakland on the evening of “Black Friday” November 27, taking photos of pets and children with Santa and his elf.   Donations will be used to help the animals of Garrett County!  In the photos below, Sally, Rexx, & friends dream of giant dog biscuits.  (Click on photos to enlarge)

KIND News

Each year, PAWS pays for subscriptions to KIND News for interested classrooms in Garrett County elementary and middle schools.  For more information about KIND News, click on the Education tab at the top of the page.  Below are some photos and excerpts from a few of the nice thank you notes we have received from some of the children who read KIND News in their classrooms.

Excerpts from children’s thank you letters:

“Dear PAWS, Thank you for being kind enough to help these poor animals.”

“Thank you for the Kind news.  The part that I like out of the kind news is New Hope for Horse.  How you help them if they don’t have any food and clean water to drink.  I think that really helpful to save the horses.  To help them to have good owners.”

“When I read about K-9 crusaders it was cool because they taught the dogs how to sniff out poachers!”

“When I was little my dog got hit and lived with 3 legs.  I’ve seen cats with 2 legs, they’re neat.”

“One day I’m going to be a vet and help animals because you inspired me to help animals.”

“We learn more about animals from this.  And I love animals so much that I raise a farm.”

“I like KIND News because it tells me how animals are important.  Another reason that I like it is they save dogs from dog pounds and train them for police dogs.”

“Another thing about KIND News is it inspires me to want to help animals even more than I already do.”

“I think that rescuing animals is an awesome thing to do to keep animals alive.”

“My favorite article was about a shelter training dogs to be police dogs.  I was happy that they did not put them to sleep.”

“Thank you for giving my school Southern middle school (SMS) a Kind news.  We read them in the mornings if we don’t have books.  Or we read them in our spare time.  I had just read the december issue.  One of my favorites out of issue is the article called “Critter Card Cut Outs”!  These talk about dogs named Rusty, Katie, and Jin.  Thanks again for sending us Kind News it helps us know what’s going on with animals.”

“Thank you for giving my school Kind News to read and share.  One thing that I enjoy most if finding the Chameleon in the kind News.  I also enjoy finding out all of the New information about animals and people who saved them.  The games are cool too.  I have 3 dogs and I love animals!  I want a mouse for Christmas but I’m not allowed.”

“Thank you for paying for our Kind news for our class.  Thank you.  I really like how you guys care so much about the animals.”

“Thank you for all the kind news.  I really like them.  I like the riddle rat riddles.  P.S. If a cow could travel in a space ship where would it go.  To the Milky Way.”

“Thank you for making the kind news for us.  It is very kind of you to take your time to make these.  I liked the new hope for horses because I have a horse and I love it very much and I am glad you guys are doing something about it.”
